Simulation
The Patient Simulation Lab consists of computer driven mannequins and other artificial anatomy that can be manipulated to simulate medical conditions and situations. These scenarios are used for training health care professionals how to react in different critical care situations and perform routine medical examinations.
Being a photographer with daily access to this environment has given me the opportunity to look at the subjects as more than teaching tools. With the right framing and mechanical parts hidden under a hospital gown, it becomes difficult to decipher the simulations from a real person. This unknown distinction can be unsettling to the viewer and the image elicits a feeling of uneasiness and curiosity.
